Course Entry Requirements

4 A* – D GCSE grades or equivalent including a grade 4/D in GCSE English Language  and preferably a Science subject.

If you are interested in joining the College we will arrange a meeting with an experienced subject counsellor who will help you to choose courses that best suit your ambitions and achievements.

All entry requirement details are correct at the time of publication, September 2018, however, the College may need to make some changes by September 2019 in the light of student demand, staff availability and external factors beyond the College’s control.

What will I study?

You will learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the beauty sector.  Learning will take place in both the classroom and in the college’s modern and well-equipped training salon.

You will develop your understanding of the wide range of practices and procedures needed to work in the exciting beauty therapy industry such as providing facial skincare, waxing, manicure, pedicure and health and safety.

The course is broken down into a number of units covering a wide range of beauty therapy procedures and practices. The units that you must study are:

  • Anatomy & physiology
  • Principles of practice for beauty therapists
  • Hair removal treatments
  • Facial and skin analysis treatments
  • Manicure services
  • Pedicure services
  • Light cured gel polish
  • Lash and brow treatments
  • Apply make up

You must also one of the following optional units :

  • Male skin care treatments
  • Spray tanning treatments
  • Introduction to the spa industry

Why should I study this course?

If you like to help make people feel good, pampered and relaxed, then specialising as a Beauty Therapist may be an enjoyable career for you.

This one year course will suit you if you enjoy working with people and like to learn in both practical and classroom environments.

How is the course assessed?

The assessment for the qualification will require you to perform practical assessments and also show your knowledge and understanding in assignments and an exam. You must also achieve the mandatory employer involvement for the qualification before a qualification grade can be given.

What will this course prepare me for?

Further education, employment and/or career progression in the beauty therapy industry.

Private Study

As an approximate guideline you should be practicing your beauty therapy skills and developing your knowledge for around 8 hours per week. Ideally you will find regular work experience within the beauty therapy industry.

What materials will I need to provide?

You must provide your own black tunic, black trousers and black, flat, enclosed, thick soled shoes. You will be expected to bring your own stationery (ie paper, pens etc).

Other essential products and equipment required for you to successfully complete your course will be provided for you. Many of our students find it beneficial to buy a college beauty therapy kit and a text book in order to develop their skills and knowledge at home.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught the theory and practical aspects of Beauty Therapy in both the classroom and our modern, well equipped training salon. Your enthusiastic teachers will help you to develop the essential skills and personal qualities needed for a successful performance in your working life.

City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy course is for you if:

You have an interest in beauty therapy and enjoy learning in both practical and classroom environments. This course is also for you if you are willing to give and receive beauty therapy treatments and enjoy working with others. You should also be a positive and motivated person who is able to provide models for beauty therapy treatments.

City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy course is not for you if:

You do not wish to give and receive beauty therapy treatments. This course will also not be for you if you only enjoy working on your own, are not willing to attend regularly and punctually and are unable to provide models for beauty therapy treatments. . This course will not suit you if you are unwilling to comply with our salon dress code.
