Why should I study this course?

If you would like to work within the television or film industry, then this very practical course is ideally suited to students who want hands-on experience of production work in the media rather than consistently writing analyses or essays.  You will gain an understanding of media and research techniques. You will find out about production management, pre-production techniques and video technology. You will also take specialist units looking at shooting a single camera drama, video editing, animation production and more.

How is the course assessed?

This course has no exams and your work will be assessed throughout the course.  You will be given a grade for each unit – Pass, Merit and Distinction and these will be used to calculate your final grade.

What will this course prepare me for?

This is an ideal course to lead onto a degree course in Media Technology/Production, along with other Media based courses. It will prepare you to work independently, using a range of techniques and approaches to gathering information and presenting it.

We have seen a number of students gain employment within the film and television industry.

Private Study

We except you to be doing about 3-4 hrs of independent study each week. You will also spend time away from college filming your projects.

What materials will I need to provide?

Technical Media Equipment will be provided for you. All you will need is a pad of paper, a pen and plenty of ideas.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by highly qualified media professionals. Some of whom have worked within the television and film industry themselves. The assessment will take the form of project based learning where you will research a genre (Zombie horror) or format (music video), produce it and evaluate your own production. As this course is very practical you will develop and learn many new media technology skills such as film editing and camerawork.

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production is for you if:

You enjoy being creative, you enjoy working as part of a team, you are motivated to research and produce products yourself and especially if you would like to work within the television or film industry.
