Why should I study this course?

Beauty and Spa Therapy is a thriving industry based on providing facial and body treatments that improve how clients look and feel. This is a one year course which follows on from our Level 2 course to develop your skills in beauty therapy. It will provide you with the opportunity to become ready for work as a beauty therapist with a high level of occupational competency.

What will I study?

You will build upon your existing experience and learn the more advanced theoretical and practical aspects of beauty therapy. Teaching will take place in both the classroom and in the college’s impressive and fully-equipped training salon, where you will develop your understanding of the practices and procedures needed for a career in beauty therapy.

The course is broken down into a number of units, covering a wide range of salon procedures and practices.

The units you must study are:

  • Working with colleagues within beauty related industries
  • Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
  • Client care and communication in beauty related industries
  • Promote and sell products and services to clients
  • Provide body massage
  • Provide facial electrotherapy treatments
  • Provide body electrotherapy treatments

You must also study optional units that could include:

  • Provide Indian head massage
  • Apply individual permanent lashes
  • Apply micro-dermabrasion

How is the course assessed?

The assessment for the qualification will require you to perform practical tasks and also show your knowledge and understanding in assignments and on-line tests.

What will the course prepare me for?

Further education, employment and/or career progression in the beauty therapy industry.

Private study

As an approximate guideline, you should be practicing your beauty therapy skills and developing your knowledge for around 9 hours per week. Ideally you will find regular work experience within the beauty therapy industry.

What materials will I need to provide?

You must provide your own Black tunic, black trousers and black, flat, enclosed, thick soled shoes.

You will be expected to bring your own stationery (i.e. paper, pens etc). All other essential products and equipment required for you to successfully complete your course will be provided for you.

Many of our students find it beneficial to buy a college beauty therapy kit and a text book in order to develop their skills and knowledge at home.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught the theory and practical aspects of Beauty Therapy in both the classroom and our modern, well equipped training salon. Your enthusiastic teachers will help you to develop the essential skills and personal qualities needed for a successful performance in your working life.

This course is for you if...

You wish to develop your existing skills in beauty therapy and enjoy learning in both practical and classroom environments. As with the Level 2 course, you should be a positive and motivated person, enjoy working with people, be able to provide your own models for beauty therapy treatments, and be willing to perform and receive these treatments.

You should also understand the importance of adhering to the dress code and attending regularly and on time – all skills necessary for working in the field of beauty therapy.

What are the course requirements?

4 GCSEs at grades 9 - 3 (A*- D) equivalent including English Language.

Students must also have passed the respective Beauty Therapy Diploma course at Level 2.

If you are interested in joining the College we will arrange a meeting with an experienced subject counsellor who will help you to choose courses that best suit your ambitions and achievements.

All entry requirement details are correct at the time of publication; however, the College may need to make some changes in light of student demand, staff availability and external factors beyond the College's control.
