Overview
T Levels are new, two-year, technical study programmes (similar to apprenticeships) designed with employers to give young people the skills that industry needs. They are career-focused, with a significant industry placement allowing you to develop the knowledge and skills you need to compete for the best university places, higher/degree apprenticeships and highly skilled careers.
T Levels are for young people who are academically strong and ambitious to get ahead in high-level technical occupations (next level skills for next level jobs). They provide the chance to learn what a real career is like while studying.
T Levels will offer you a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience during an extended industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days). They will provide knowledge and experience needed to open the door into skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship.
What will you learn?
T-Level courses will include the following compulsory elements:
- a technical qualification, which will include core theory, concepts and skills for an industry area
- specialist skills and knowledge for an occupation or career
- an industry placement with an employer
The course is made up of two parts – a management and administration core, and a specialist occupational area.
The management and administration core covers the knowledge and skills needed to work in a variety of business areas. You will study a range of topics including different types of businesses, organisational structures, finance and HR.
You will also study the occupational specialist option entitled Business Support. In this unit, you will study a range of business techniques that help organisations to plan effectively for the future.
The occupational specialisms provide students with knowledge and skills required to enter employment or further study in the specific occupational area.
Teaching will be a mix of classroom-based delivery (around 80%) and industry placement (20%). This will give you an opportunity to link theory to up-to-date best practice, providing our graduates with outstanding learning opportunities so that they can successfully progress to their chosen career.
The core component is assessed through traditional exams and an employer-set project. The occupational specialism is assessed via an extensive set assignment.
A Distinction* at T Level is worth the same as 3 A Levels at A*.
These qualifications will be recognised by universities and other education providers for students who wish to further their studies.
