Overview

This course provides an exciting and enjoyable pathway through a science qualification to help you either enter employment or proceed to higher education in a science subject. It is accessible and provides a range of applied scientific experiences in biology, chemistry, physics, laboratory techniques and industrial science.

It will give you the opportunity to acquire technical skills and the experiences that you need to progress into employment or higher education. Our students have gone on to study degrees including biomedical science, zoology, marine biology, biochemistry and many more.

What will you learn?

Your mandatory units will include:

• Unit 1: Principles and Applications of Science

• Unit 2: Practical Scientific Procedures And Techniques

• Unit 3: Science Investigation Skills

You will then complete a fourth unit that will tailored towards Biomedical Science.

This course is for you if you want to extend your scientific experience and knowledge and you are prepared to work hard.

Entry Requirements & Other Info
  • Entry Requirements Arrow down

    You must have a minimum of four GCSEs grades 9-4, including English Language and Maths. It is preferable to have a grade 5 in Science to support the level of study.

  • Experiences Arrow down

    This course will provide you with the opportunity to develop your knowledge of science and prepare for a career in STEM. You will be given the chance to attend workshops and talks from industry professionals and academics, as well as visit leading universities to understand where your future could take you. Within college, you will be provided with the option to take part in revision and study sessions which will enhance your learning and prepare you for your exams.

  • Progression Arrow down

    This course will provide opportunities for you to become employed in the applied science industry or other businesses that use scientific knowledge and skills. It will also prepare you for Higher Education science courses.

  • Outcomes Arrow down

    Students who complete a qualification in Applied Science go onto a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Forensic Scientist, Research Scientist, Chemist, Laboratory Technician or Technologist, to name a few.
