Why should I study this course?
Public Services is a vibrant vocational course which has both practical and theoretical elements. The Course can lead to many careers within the public sector and you will also gain a good foundation to progress to level three. In choosing Public Services you will gain confidence and various skills for life.
If you are considering a career delivering services to the public, this dynamic course will enable you to aim high, gain confidence and learn skills for life.
You will develop the knowledge and specific skills required to work within modern public service organisations. This includes discovering what people in uniformed services do in their job roles, how they work and how they interact with each other.
This is a flexible course that mixes practice and theory. There will also be many opportunities to take part in practical activities to enhance your learning.
What will I study?
The course is all about the different Public Services, including the skill and fitness levels you need, the knowledge of public service careers, citizenship and much more. You will study a variety of exciting and energetic units including, Public Service Skills, Employment and Adventurous Activities in a public service context.
How is the course assessed?
There are continuous assessments throughout the course. These consist of projects, presentations, physical demonstrations and written assignments.
What will the course prepare me for?
The course will prepare you for careers in most of the Public Services such as, Police, Fire Service, Army, Navy, RAF, Coastguard and many office based government jobs. Furthermore, it will prepare you for progression to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services.
You must take part in independent private study on a regular basis. You will be given regular homework tasks to enhance your learning experience and gain the high grades required for further study.
What materials will I need to provide?
You will need a file, paper and pens for classroom work, but you will also need sports kit for the practical classes.
How will I be taught?
Your lessons will consist of group, individual and paired work. You will have information delivered by specialised teaching staff and your lessons will be highly differentiated to your needs. You will also have practical lessons taking part in directed sport and fitness sessions to develop your physical fitness in preparation for public service work.

What are the course requirements?
A minimum of two 9 – 3 (A*-C) at GCSE or a minimum of a Pass in one Level 2 BTEC or equivalent.
If you are interested in joining the College, we will arrange a meeting with an experienced subject counsellor who will help you to choose courses that best suit your ambitions and achievements.
