Hull KR New Partnership

The dual career programme for 16–19-year-olds will enable students to pursue their preferred academic course of study alongside an enhanced Rugby League programme with Hull KR Foundation and Academy staff. 

The student athletes will train under Hull KR Foundation and Academy coaches at Sewell Group Craven Park, whilst completing their studies at college. Alongside training sessions, there will be playing opportunities for both squads on a Wednesday afternoon in the RFL College League.  

The programme gives young players the opportunity to progress into the professional game while giving young people the opportunity to prepare for a career, progress to university, or seek employment after completing their College course. 

Ben Lazenby, Academy General Manager, is excited for the new partnership, saying “This partnership is an exciting step for the club to support ongoing rugby development opportunities alongside studying. Over time I see this rugby offer to act as a secondary pathway alongside the academy to provide opportunities for later developing or late emerging talent to bloom and progress into professional rugby. 

“It is imperative that we maintain a wide and emergent pathway that provides opportunities, guided by our expert coaches towards representative and professional rugby league. This, alongside the wide range of learning opportunities that Wilberforce offer creates a really special partnership that could benefit any young aspiring rugby league player out there”.  Colin Peaks, Principal of Wilberforce College, echoed Ben’s enthusiasm as he said “We are delighted to be able to partner with Hull KR Foundation. This year we have a number of Hull KR Academy students at the College and this partnership will not only benefit those students but also future aspiring players in years to come. The College can give unrivalled support to all youth rugby players, alongside a quality education, as together we aim to develop rugby talent in the future.”
