National Performance tables confirm student success
The recent release of the government’s 2017 National Performance Tables for A Levels and Advanced Vocational and Technical qualifications confirmed Wilberforce as a College where young people achieve both educational and vocational success!

“We are immensely proud of the achievements of our students last summer and almost 300 are now enjoying study in Higher Education, with more than ever studying at their first choice university”, said David Cooper, College Principal.

David continues: “2017 saw Wilberforce students achieving the best results in the College’s history, with almost 70% securing the highest grades. Every one of these results has been earned by a combination of academic ability and sheer hard work!

The City and region is experiencing huge investments in renewable technologies and it needs highly qualified, innovative young people to make it happen. What these results show is that those young people are here in the city now, taking the courses that prepare them for those opportunities and achieving outstanding grades. For example, on our Engineering courses, over 70% of the students gained Distinctions this year.

At the same time, our year as the City of Culture has shown just what Hull and the region can achieve – the creativity, innovation and vision were evident for the rest of the country to see, and there’s a real optimism for the future. These are the young people that are going to turn that optimism into a reality, going on to be doctors, lawyers, academics, artists, teachers, games and app designers.”

Behind the numbers lie some outstanding individual performances. Ashleigh Dixon achieved three A*s in Psychology, Mathematics, Biology and an A in Further Maths and is now studying Psychology at the University of Hull. Ashleigh is returning to the College as a Higher Education mentor, keen to pass on the secrets of her outstanding success.

Alexander Christie achieved three grade As in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and is currently studying Mathematics at the University of Leeds. Megan Webster’s A* in Biology has enabled her to take up a place to study Zoology, also at the University of Leeds.
