Coronavirus Update

The Government has entered the country into the ‘delay’ phase of its strategy to deal with coronavirus and it has updated its advice accordingly. Unless the Government guidelines change or we are requested to close by the Department for Education, Wilberforce College will remain open.

In line with Government advice issued on 12th March 2020, please stay away from the College for seven days if you develop:
i) a persistent cough
ii) a temperature.

More information is available on the NHS website.

Catch it, Bin It, Kill it!
Help protect yourself and others by:
• Washing your hands frequently
• Always carry a tissue with you and use them to catch your cough and sneeze.
• Use hand sanitiser

If students need to self-isolate, please inform the college as per our normal absence reporting arrangements and state that the reason is ‘self-isolation’. Should students have more significant symptoms, please telephone 111 or use the NHS 111 website: https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19.Student work: As communicated with students, work will be provided for them to complete at home throughout any closure.

Exams:
Students and parents are quite rightly concerned about the impact of the virus on the forthcoming exams. There have been no announcements by the Government about this, but we will monitor the situation closely and keep you fully informed of any developments. Students should continue to prepare as best they can.

Trips/visits/work experience and external speakers:
As a precautionary measure, all trips and external speakers will be cancelled until further notice.

Student bursaries: The college has put measures in place to ensure all students in receipt of the ‘vulnerable group bursary’ continue to receive payments. Students in receipt of a college meal card will receive a £15 per week payment to support them during any period of closure.

Please be assured that our staff are continuing their work in the professional manner you’d expect. We would like to thank our students, parents and staff for the mature and responsible manner in which they are conducting themselves in the face of this pandemic.

We will communicate any updates with students via their college email and provide updates on the college’s website and social media pages.
