Principal’s Blog #4. Important update for current students

Dear students.

I hope you are all well and have managed to enjoy the Easter break as much as possible. I want to take this opportunity to update you further on your College work and how we intend to support you over the coming weeks and months, at this difficult and uncertain time.

Firstly, you will no doubt have seen Thursday’s news with regard to a lockdown for a further three weeks. This means that the College will remain closed until further notice.

Regarding your courses, I know there are many mixed messages going round at present. For each different course and year group I have detailed below the next steps you should take.

Please remember that over the coming months you should all continue to be engaged in your future. Regardless of the work we set you there are many other places you can engage in study. A lot of websites are offering additional remote learning in response to this situation. Please access as these much as is possible.

In addition, can I ask you to download Microsoft Teams onto your devices? In doing this it makes it far easier for all staff and students to go to one place to get all the information required. We intend to move away from emails as much as possible (teachers will still look at emails, but you may not get information quickly using this method). The College’s tutorial programme will continue in Teams for all students.

A Level year 2 students

The awarding bodies will be providing each student with a final grade.

It is important that you start to work towards your next career destination. If you intend to go to University they will have work available on their website; please do access this. If you intend to go straight into employment or a higher apprenticeship then you should start to research this further and gain as much information and knowledge as possible.

Your teachers will still be available for support, advice and guidance for your next steps. Student work ideas and activities will be available via the student channel on teams and email. Please continue to check these regularly and communicate with your teachers. In addition some of your teachers may be happy to continue to provide further course-specific work for you. This is fine and will be good to increase your knowledge. Please be aware that this will be no longer assessed or used in your final assessments.

Please can you also update us on your destination for next year on the link in teams.

You should continue with your work remotely, which you will be assessed on. Please continue to access support if needed.

BTEC including Criminology and CPLD year 2 students

The awarding bodies will be providing each student with a final grade. They still have not confirmed fully how they are going to achieve this. It is therefore essential that you finish as much work as possible which will then make it easier for your teachers to provide a justified grade to the awarding body.
