Principal’s Update: more information for our current students

Dear all,

I hope you and your families are safe and well.  I am sure many of you, like me watched Boris Johnson’s speech on Sunday evening with interest. There are many questions we all have following this and, throughout this week I imagine, most if not all will be answered.

Clearly for us the most important question is will schools and colleges re-open to students? At present the government wants to get students in front of teachers if they are sitting exams next year. The logistics of doing this are yet to be discussed and there are many difficulties that this would present.

In the meantime, the most important thing is that you are all focussing on your work or progression next year. I have updated the guidance for the courses we offer. Please take your time to read this and ensure that you follow our guidance.

In addition, I have had various emails over the past week from students wishing to confirm their return to College next year. For all students on level 2 courses and in their first year of level 3 we will be sending out a form for you to confirm your return next year. This form will also give you the option to ask for support with this if you need further guidance from your teachers.

We are also aware that some students who have finished level 3 courses may have changed their plans considering the current situation. If you are at the end of your level 3 qualification and may be looking for a change in career aspirations, we will be sending out further information and guidance for these students over the coming weeks.

Year 2 A Level and BTEC including Criminology and CPLD

The awarding bodies will be providing each student with a final grade. It is important that you start to work towards your next career destination. If you intend to go to University they will have work available on their website, please do access this. If you intend to go straight into employment or a higher apprenticeship then you should start to research this further and gain as much information and knowledge as possible.

Your teachers will still be available for support, advice and guidance for your next steps. Student work ideas and activities will be available via the student channel on teams and email. Please continue to check these regularly and communicate with your teachers. In addition some of your teachers may be happy to continue to provide further course-specific work for you. This is fine and will be good to increase your knowledge. Please be aware that this will be no longer assessed or used in your final assessments.
