Kate Cavanagh

I have been teaching PE for over 24 years, starting my career at a very large secondary school in Cambridgeshire before moving to Hull in 1999, where I became Head of PE at Kingswood School. I then moved on to Isaac Newton School in 2001 as Head of Faculty in Sport and Performing Arts. I joined the Wilberforce PE department in 2008 as a part-time PE teacher having expanded our family in 2005. I currently teach full time on a range of courses from A Level PE, BTEC L2&3 Sport to L2 & L3 Health and Caring here at Wilberforce.

I am married with two gorgeous boys and sport plays a huge part in both my and my family’s lives. I spend most of my weekends standing on the side-lines watching both sons playing football. Outside of college I am the captain and manager of a local Netball team in the Humberside Netball Open Age league, having played at representative level for Southern England as an U19 player many years ago. I am also a very keen walker/hiker having completed the 5 largest National Mountains in the UK in the 5 days’ challenge (Ben Nevis in Scotland, Snowdon in North Wales, Scafell Pike in the Lake District, Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland and Carrantuohill in the Republic of Ireland) in summer 2019. You can regularly find me on a mountain these days and I am looking forward to my next challenge …… climbing at altitude!
