Nikki Swain

I joined Wilberforce in January 2020 as the Curriculum Lead for Hair and Beauty. I started my Beauty Therapy journey when I was 17,  beginning with Level 2 in Beauty Therapy, and after my first year I progressed to Level 3, as our students do here at the college. During this time I won several industry competitions including a work experience placement at the prestigious Ragdale Hall Health Hydro and Spa.

From being fully-qualified at 19 I began my salon life. I worked in a number of salon environments from a small village salon where I worked my way up to being salon manager, to working abroad for two summers. I decided to pursue a career in teaching as I wanted to inspire others and build on the industry I was so proud to be a part of.

I have always been passionate about hair and beauty and I feel this shows in my education. While studying for my teaching degree I opened my own beauty therapy business so that I could be more flexible around my studies as I also completed my Level 1 and 2 in Hairdressing during this time. I have had a very successful business for the last 13 years and although it has shrunk in size to accommodate my career path I still have some amazing clients who have turned into friends. During my 18 years in the hair and beauty industry I have worked with a number of leading companies such as St Tropez, White to Brown, Sterex, Dermalogica, OPI, Elemis, UCW, Schwarkopf, and L’Oreal to name a few. My favourite treatments to carry out are individual lashes and I have a passion for education and skincare.
