If at any point you feel as though you’re struggling with any aspect of your course or if you’d like support to help you achieve top grades, our Study Support Tutors are here to help.
Based in the Study Centre, they offer individual or small group tuition, as well as support in the classroom. You can call into the Centre any time during the day if you need a quiet working area. Or if you’d like to benefit from subject-specific support, you can speak with your teachers who will arrange for you to meet with a Study Support Tutor, or speak to Jill Naylor, Study Support Manager who can be emailed on email@example.com
Additional Study Support due to COVID: Wilberforce College will receive 16-19 tuition funding from the Education and Skills Funding Agency. The funding is being provided to support small group tuition for 16 to 19 students in English, Maths, and other courses where learning has been disrupted.
The college will use the fund to pay for both additional teaching time and the employment of additional learning support staff who will work with small groups of students. Support will be prioritised for those students who have not achieved a grade 5 in English or Maths.
To complement the Study Support Tutors who provide additional support to students, we also have a team of Curriculum Support Mentors. These are all ex-Wilberforce students currently studying at the University of Hull. They attend one day per week and provide support to individuals and small groups of students across the curriculum. Not only do the mentors provide invaluable subject-specific support, plus help with organisation, planning and exam revision, but they are excellent role models to students who themselves might be contemplating university study.
Every student is allocated a tutor to ensure they make good progress whilst at the college. Your tutor will meet you individually once every four weeks for a Learning Progress Meeting. This flexible meeting focuses on your needs at the time, such as how you are settling in at college or your university application. You can also arrange to talk with your tutor in-between scheduled meetings, and throughout the year you’ll have additional group tutorials. We developed this system in response to student feedback, so that students can talk more about their own progress and benefit from advice from trained professionals.
