DFN Project SEARCH - Supported Internships
DFN Project SEARCH Hull, is a supported internship programme provided by Wilberforce Sixth Form College in partnership with Hull City Council, East Yorkshire of Riding Council, Asda and City Health Care Partnership.
The programme lasts one academic year and helps young people develop transferable job skills to help gain employment.
To join this programme, you will need:
- An Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
- Be aged 16-24 (Asda) and 18-24 (CHCP)
- Live within Hull or the East Riding of Yorkshire
- Have the desire to achieve full time employment (16 hours at least)
- Be willing to use public transport
- Be willing to undergo a DBS check as part of the induction

- One hour per day focused on Employability and Life Skills (e.g., Workplace Safety, Finances, Customer Service) in the host business’s base room
- Three rotations through different departments or external businesses to develop transferable skills
- Experience of a typical 5-hour workday
- End-of-day review and reflection
- Hands-on support with learning job tasks from a Job Coach
- Ongoing support in searching for employment during and after the course
DFN Project SEARCH Hull is proud to be partnered with CHCP and Asda and work alongside Hull City Council, East Riding Council and DFN Project Search.
City Health Care Partnership (CHCP)
Based at the K2 Building in Hull’s City Centre, the DFN Project SEARCH – CHCP programme has been running since 2021, supporting many of our interns into employment.
CHCP is a Health and Social Care company that forms part of the NHS, with departments across Hull and East Riding. Our interns are supported through travel training on public transport to reach their prospective departments. CHCP offer a variety of placement opportunities, including, but not limited to:
- Administration
- Catering
- Housekeeping
- Logistics & IT
- Care & Activities
- Stock
- Business Support Services
Asda – Mount Pleasant
Based at the Asda store on Mount Pleasant, the DFN Project SEARCH – Asda programme has been running since 2024, with interns gaining employment in different sectors.
Our interns form part of the Asda team, gaining experience in the retail sector and learning valuable transferable skills. Most placement opportunities are based within the Asda-Mount Pleasant store, but interns may be required to use public transport for future rotations as they continue to develop their skills. Asda offer a variety of placements opportunities, including but not limited to:
- Customer Service/Checkouts
- George Clothing
- Fresh Foods
- Ambient Foods (Packaged foods)
- Home & Leisure
- Warehouse
