Wilberforce Sixth Form College

About Our College

A short history...

Two dedicated sixth form colleges were created in the late 1980s, serving 16-19 year olds in the Hull area, from a concept proposed by local Councillor Max Bird.

As a result, the old Saltshouse Junior School was transformed into Wilberforce Sixth Form College and in September 1988 the College opened its doors to approximately 600 full-time students.

The College really started to grow in student numbers in 2000, when it increased the curriculum offer to include vocational courses. This wide curriculum offer increased students to over a 1000.

Numbers continued to rise as the College made significant investment in its curriculum, staff and estates. Developments have included building award-winning teaching blocks, creating a large multi-use Atrium space and installing an outdoor games area and fitness suite. The College also boasts university-standard Science labs and industry standard Engineering workshops, Hair & Beauty salons, as well as a brand new, state-of-the-art immersive space and Esports Gaming Suite.

The College continues to attract students from across all areas of Hull and as far as the East Coast.

Wilberforce College is proud of its excellent academic reputation, with outstanding results in A Levels, BTECs and City & Guilds courses, and an approach to career pathways that sees students achieving their career destinations.
