Wilberforce Sixth Form College is incredibly proud to celebrate Governor and chair of our finance committee, Alan Foster, who has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours 2026, as recognised by His Majesty King Charles.

The honour, awarded as part of the Humber region honours list, recognises Alan’s outstanding contribution to education and his long standing commitment to sixth form colleges both locally and nationally.

Alan has been part of the Wilberforce community for many years, offering unwavering dedication, strategic leadership and an unshakeable belief in the power of education to transform lives. His impact has been felt across every level of the College, from governance and strategy to championing opportunities for young people.

Speaking about the award, Alan said he was “deeply honoured” but emphasised that the recognition belongs to the College as much as to him:

“This award is not just for me, it’s for Wilberforce Sixth Form College and the people who make it such a special place. I’ve been privileged to work alongside passionate staff, governors and students who inspire me every day.”

In addition to his role at Wilberforce, Alan also serves as Vice Chair of the Sixth Form Colleges Association (SFCA), where he plays a key role in representing and advocating for sixth form education on a national stage. His leadership within the SFCA has helped strengthen the voice of sixth form colleges and ensure the sector continues to thrive.

Principal Colin Peaks said on the award “This MBE is a fitting recognition of Alan’s dedication, integrity and service. On behalf of the entire Wilberforce community, we offer a huge congratulations and sincere thanks for everything he continues to do for the College and for education more widely”.

We are proud to celebrate this remarkable achievement.
