Overview

A year course, with two qualifications that aim to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to plan, deliver and supervise safe and effective exercise programmes. Using the new state-of-the-art college gym, you will learn what is required to become a gym instructor as well as understand and match group training sessions to needs and facilities.

What will you learn?

You will cover 9 units over the year:

  • Principles Anatomy, Physiology and Fitness.  
  • Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors. 
  • Health and Safety in the fitness environment.  
  • Conducting client consultations to support positive behaviour change. 
  • Planning and Instructing gym-based exercise. 
  • Professionalism in group training. 
  • Health and safety in the group training environment.  
  • Supporting behaviour change and healthy lifestyles.  
  • Planning and instructing group training sessions. 
What will you learn?

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is for anyone wanting to gain qualifications that enable you to go straight into employment. You will spend lots of your time in gym but also need to understand the Anatomy and Physiology elements to support your progress and pass the external exam. 

Entry Requirements & Other Info
  • Entry Requirements Arrow down

    You must have a minimum of four GCSEs at grades 9-4, including English Language and Maths. 

  • Experiences Arrow down

    This course will provide you with the opportunity to use the gym to develop your skills. You will also visit other gyms in the area to see how their PT’s work and requirements to work in their establishments.

  • Progression Arrow down

    Gaining this qualification will allow access to the Level 3 Personal Training course. This has many benefits and is a recognised qualification which will prepare you for future work in the Health Industry and will give you the opportunity to go straight into employment.   

  • Outcomes Arrow down

    Students who complete a qualification in Sport go on to a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Gym Instructor, Personal Trainer, Sports Coach, Physiotherapist, Fitness Center Manager, Professional Athlete or Teacher, to name a few.
