Overview

Prepare for a career in the world of business, gain practical insight into how products and services work and discover why business is so important for the economy. This is a vocational course that will help prepare you for working in business, developing skills that employers value and expect from future employees.

This is an ideal stepping stone to either a job in business (for example in retail, the public sector or the world of finance) or perhaps further study in a business-related field at university such as marketing, finance or personnel.

• Communication in Business

• Starting a Small Business

The second year of the course follows the pattern of the first. Again, you will study a total nine units including:

• Business Retailing

• Preparing for Employment in Business

• Managing Human Resources

• Business Management

• Internet Retailing

The course includes a two-week work placement so you get a taste of the business-related jobs that are available.

To support your achievement in the course, you will be expected to complete at least six hours of independent study each week.

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is for you if you would like to study a subject that uses a variety of learning activities, including visits to local or regional businesses, work placements and the opportunity to hear from experienced speakers who are industry experts. It is an ideal stepping stone to the world of work or further study in a business-related field such as marketing, finance or personnel.

    You must have a minimum of five GCSEs grades 9-4, including English Language and Maths.

    This course will provide you with the opportunity to take part in trips to businesses like the Amazon Fulfilment Centre in Doncaster, to learn how a business works first hand. You will also experience talks from visiting speakers and visit many universities to help you to understand the best career pathway for you.

    You may, of course, use the course as a means of securing a Higher Education place on one of the very many business related degree courses available at university. It will also provide you with a good basis for starting a higher level apprenticeship or even entering the world of work once leaving college.

  • Outcomes Arrow down

    Students who complete a qualification in Business go on to a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Accountant, Marketing Executive, Entrepreneur, Economist, Manager or Teacher, to name a few.
