Overview
Public Services is a vibrant vocational course which has both practical and theoretical elements. The qualification can lead to many careers within the public sector and you will also gain a good foundation to progress to level three. In choosing Public Services you will gain confidence and various skills for life.
You will develop the knowledge and specific skills required to work within modern public service organisations. This includes discovering what people in uniformed services do in their job roles, how they work and how they interact with each other.
This is a flexible course that mixes practice and theory. There will also be many opportunities to take part in practical activities to enhance your learning.
What will you learn?
The course is all about the different public services, including the skill and fitness levels you need, the knowledge of public service careers, citizenship and much more.
You will study a variety of exciting and energetic units including, public service skills, employment and adventurous activities in a public service context.
Who is the course aimed at?
This course is for you if you have a genuine interest in furthering your knowledge of Public Services and you are considering a career path that enables you to use this knowledge. This course will prepare your for the world of work as well as giving you the opportunity to progress to BTEC Level 3.

Entry Requirements
You must have a minimum of four GCSEs at grades 9-3 or equivalent, including English Language and Maths.

Experiences
This course will provide you with many opportunities depending on the pathway you choose. There will be visits from industry professionals, such as the Bomb Squad, as well as visits to the courts and outdoor activity centres. You will also be able to get involved with our Upskilling Programme, which will offer many different activities to enrich your learning and help you to grow your skills.

Progression
Students who complete a qualification in Public Services can go on to complete a degree in an area like Policing. For those who choose the Military and Outdoor Skills pathway, this course also helps to prepare you for becoming part of the Armed Forces, which has many different job areas to explore.

Outcomes
Students who complete a qualification in Public Services go on to a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Police Officer, Army Officer, Investigator, Paramedic, Border Force Officer or Security Consultant.
