Overview

If you are interested in a career in sport or want to progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma (BTEC) in Sport, this course will give you an insight into the various vocational aspects of the subject both from a theoretical and practical based approach.

Challenge yourself with this active course, which aims to further your interest in sport and prepare you for a future in health and fitness.

You will gain insight into the various vocational aspects of the sport industry. Lessons will include use of the college’s Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and your learning will take the form of practical assessments, case studies, projects and presentations and include two examinations.

If you didn’t quite achieve that grade 4 (C) in GCSE English and Maths you will study these alongside your BTEC qualification.

• The sport and active leisure industry

You will also gain a first aid qualification as part of your course, as well as having the opportunity to be part of our new volunteer programme which will see you working with local primary schools running games and small sided events. As part of the qualification you will complete employability experiences in the sports industry giving you an invaluable insight into the world of work.

This course is for you if you have a genuine interest in furthering your knowledge of sport and you are considering a career path that enables you to use this knowledge. This course will prepare your for the world of work as well as giving you the opportunity to progress to BTEC Level 3.

Entry Requirements & Other Info
  • Entry Requirements Arrow down

    You must have:

    • At least four GCSE grades 9-3 (or equivalent) or a minimum of a Pass in a Level 2 BTEC (or equivalent)

    • GCSE English and/or Maths at grade 3 or higher

    It would be advantageous if you play sport for a club or organisation outside of College.

  • Experiences Arrow down

    This course will provide you with the opportunity to hear from academics and industry professionals regarding pathways in Sport and careers that would be available to you. You will also get the chance to take part in trips, including our trip to Malta with the Advanced Colleges Trust.

  • Progression Arrow down

    A qualification in Sport has many benefits and is a recognised qualification which will prepare you for future work in the sports and leisure industry or progression onto university.

  • Outcomes Arrow down

    Students who complete a qualification in Sport go on to a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Personal Trainer, Sports Coach, Physiotherapist, Fitness Center Manager, Professional Athlete or Teacher, to name a few.
