Overview

The aim of this qualification is to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to seven years of age.  

This one-year course provides you with practical training in Early Years settings, where you can put theory into practice.

The aim of this qualification is to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to seven years of age.  

This one-year course provides you with practical training in early years’ settings, where you can put theory into practice. You will study areas that focus on supporting the well-being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles, supporting care routines for babies and young children and supporting the needs of the child in preparing for school and the roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner.   

You will also spend one day per week in your placement where you will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of early years settings.

This qualification is for you if you would like a career working with children from babies to five years of age.  

Entry Requirements & Other Info
  • Entry Requirements Arrow down

    You must have a minimum of three GCSEs at grades 9-4 in three or more subjects, including a grade 3 or higher in English or Maths.  You will also need a full DBS certificate in place before external placements start in the Autumn term.  

  • Experiences Arrow down

    You will develop a wide range of work skills through attendance at your weekly placement. There will also be opportunities for you to develop your wider skillset through training including the paediatric first aid qualification and Unintentional Child Injury training. There will also be trips to the Eureka Museum in Halifax to develop understanding of how different play activities link to different areas of development in children.

    Upon successful completion of this qualification, you can enter the workforce as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or continue to study for a Level 3 qualification on the T Level Childcare and Early Years Educator programme.  

  • Outcomes Arrow down

    Learners who complete the Diploma gain the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner qualification and may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:  

    • nursery practitioner  

    • classroom assistant  

    • pre-school practitioner
