Overview
The City and Guilds in Engineering is an exciting course that gives you the chance to learn how to use different types of machinery that are in common use in the workplace. During the course you will be using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to produce engineering drawings and then produce them in the workshop using bench fitting and fabrication skills.
What will you learn?
The units covered in this course are:
- Working in engineering
- Engineering technology
- Manufacturing technology
- Bench fitting
- Fabricating sheet metal
- Constructing and testing electronic circuits
Most of the course is completed internally through work done in the workshop and in the classroom. Two of the units are externally assessed by examinations; these will be completed in January and June.
Who is this course aimed at?
This course is for you if you want a career in the Engineering industry and/or want to progress onto an Engineering course at university.

Entry Requirements
Students must have passed the respective course at Level 2 with 2 Merit units.

Experiences
This course will provide you with the opportunity to hear from academic and industry professionals in talks and workshops, as well as visiting leading universities across the UK. You will also be given the chance to take part in multiple Upskilling activities, including our Green Power Team.

Progression
Studied over two years you will gain a level 2 City and Guilds qualification in the first year moving on to the Level 3 qualification in the second year. Students who complete a L3 qualification in Engineering can go on to complete a degree in a specialism within Engineering. This could include mechanical, electrical or chemical and can help you to navigate career pathways in the future. You may also decide to enter into a higher level apprenticeship, which will help you if you are looking to become an electrician or a mechanic.

Outcomes
Students who complete a qualification in Engineering go on to a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Electrical Engineer, Civil Engineer, Architect, Chemical Engineer, Conservationist or Mechanic.
