Overview

The Health and Social Care sector is exciting and worthwhile.  You will work with those who may be vulnerable, helping them become increasingly independent, and to have dignity and choice in their lives. 

If you want to help and support people, are looking for ‘hands-on’ experience to care for their needs and build trusting relationships, then this course is for you. .

What will you learn?

You will complete the following units which will help develop a broad understanding of the health and social care industry:  

  • Human Lifespan Development which covers physical, intellectual, emotional and social development across the human lifespan, the factors affecting development and the effects of ageing. 
  • Working in Health and Social Care which explores what it is like to work in the health and social care sector, including the roles and responsibilities of workers and organisations. 
  • Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs which focuses on the principles and practicalities that underpin meeting individuals’ care and support needs, which are the foundation of all the care disciplines. 
  • Physiological disorders where you will explore types of physiological disorders, the procedures for diagnosis, and the development of a treatment plan and provision of support for service users.

This course is for you if who are interested in learning about the health and social care sector as part of a balanced study programme and you wish to pursue a career in health, health science or caring for others in some capacity..

    You must have a minimum of four GCSEs grades 9-4, including Science, Maths and English Language

    Trips will be made to Castle Hill Hospital to take part in their surgical skills training along with hearing from academic and industry professionals through talks and workshops, held by local companies like City Health Care Partnership (CHCP), helping to enhance your learning through hands-on experience. 

  • Progression Arrow down

    This course is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other BTEC Nationals or A Levels. Alternatively, you may progress onto an apprenticeship in an associated industry or seek employment in related fields.  

  • Outcomes Arrow down

    Typical progression routes include further study or employment within fields including Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy, Midwifery, Social Work, Teaching and Nursing.

Overview

Business is a vibrant, vocational course which has both practical and theoretical elements. This course will provide you with a clear understanding of what is involved in running a business.

You will learn how successful businesses operate by looking at all the different functional areas that make up an enterprise. In choosing Business you will gain confidence and various skills for life.  Throughout the course you will be given the opportunity to listen to visiting speakers as well as the chance to undertake a week’s work placement.

What will you learn?

You will find out about all the different parts that make up a business. This includes marketing and sales, customer service, production, recruitment/selection and organisation. You will compare different businesses to be able to see why some are more successful than others.

Who is the course aimed at?

By taking this course you will be preparing for progression to a Level 3 programme of study or an apprenticeship/job. Business is a generic subject which will help you in all types of employment. This programme of study will enable you to move onto a T Level in Business at Level 3.

    You will need a minimum of four GCSE grades between 9-3. You will need at least two grade 4 in either English, Maths, or a Science.

    This course will provide you with the opportunity to take part in trips to businesses like the Amazon Fulfilment Centre in Doncaster, to learn how a business works first hand. You will also experience talks from visiting speakers and visit many universities to help you to understand the best career pathway for you.

    This is the perfect course to set the basis for a Level 3 T Level in Business.

  • Outcomes Arrow down

    Students who complete a qualification in Business go on to a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Accountant, Marketing Executive, Entrepreneur, Economist, Manager or Teacher, to name a few.
