Overview

T Levels are new, two-year, technical study programmes (similar to apprenticeships) designed with employers to give young people the skills that industry needs. They are career-focused, with a significant industry placement allowing you to develop the knowledge and skills you need to compete for the best university places, higher/degree apprenticeships and highly skilled careers.

T Levels are for young people who are academically strong and ambitious to get ahead in high-level technical occupations (next level skills for next level jobs). They provide the chance to learn what a real career is like while studying.

T Levels will offer you a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience during an extended industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days). They will provide knowledge and experience needed to open the door into skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship.

What will you learn?

T-Level courses will include the following compulsory elements:

  • a technical qualification, which will include core theory, concepts and skills for an industry area
  • specialist skills and knowledge for an occupation or career
  • an industry placement with an employer

You will study:

  • Working within the Health Sector
  • Core Science concepts
  • Good scientific and clinical practise
  • the Health Sector
  • Providing person-centred care
  • Health and well-being
  • Health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Infection prevention control
  • Managing personal information

During the second year of the programme you will complete an occupational specialism in Supporting the Adult Nursing Team – or – Supporting the Therapy Teams.

For Adult Nursing, you will learn about clinical tasks carried out on adults including taking physiological measurements, applying wound dressings, collecting specimens and monitoring hydration levels. You will learn about the different types of monitoring and emergency equipment used in healthcare settings and how to use and maintain this equipment. You will learn how to support adults in activities of daily life such as nutrition, hydration and hygiene and you will learn about the different roles of carers including supporting adults with dementia and end of life care.

For Supporting the Therapy Teams, you will learn about assisting with an individual’s overall care and needs to ensure comfort and wellbeing, assisting registered health professionals with clinical or therapeutic tasks and interventions, undertake a range of physiological measurements and carry out a range of therapeutic techniques to support allied health professionals. You will also learn about the therapy support process and how to provide advice to help individuals develop and improve their health and/or develop or maintain skills for daily living alongside learning how to prepare and maintain the therapeutic environment, equipment and resources for use.

Teaching will be a mix of classroom-based delivery (around 80%) and will include practical delivery in our Health Hub, and industry placement (20%). This will give you an opportunity to link theory to up-to-date best practice, providing our graduates with outstanding learning opportunities so that they can successfully progress to their chosen career of Adult Nursing or as an Allied Health Professional.

Assessment on the T Level includes externally-set exams, an employer-set project and synoptic assessments.

A Distinction* at T Level is worth the same as 3 A Levels at A*.

These qualifications will be recognised by universities and other education providers for students who wish to further their studies.
