A word from our Principal, Colin

Wilberforce College has been a prominent establishment in the Hull community since 1988. We have grown year on year and currently serve around 1,350 students from East Hull, West Hull and the East Riding villages.

We offer all the specialisms of a sixth form college, delivering exclusively to 16-19 years olds, but have a broad curriculum that includes A Level, T Level, BTEC, UAL and City & Guilds qualifications. Our Level 3 Advanced qualifications are particularly successful and we continuously see our students progress to some of the best universities and careers.

The College’s support services are outstanding and complement students’ learning to ensure that they have the best chance of success and their experience with us extends beyond the classroom.

We continue to make significant investment in the College’s facilities, staff and students, ensuring that we remain the first choice for students, both now and in future years.

BUSINESS, ECONOMICS & MATHS ALUMNI – Luke’s Journey

After studying Business, Economics and Maths at Wilberforce, Luke is now a Trainee Accountant at Smailes Goldie, building his professional career through an apprenticeship pathway.

“I really enjoyed my time at Wilberforce, from the college trip to Disneyland to all the amazing teachers. It really helped me move onto my professional career. I first realised I wanted to be an accountant at the Wilberforce careers fair where Smailes Goldie had a stand, and fortunately I got the job after achieving my results. Since leaving Wilberforce, I have achieved my first accounting qualification and started my Level 4. I have also returned with Smailes to talk to current Wilberforce students about what the company and profession have to offer. Overall, I had a great time at Wilberforce. I found it both enjoyable and challenging. It’s a place where I made everlasting friends and great memories.”

Now, Luke is working towards becoming fully AAT (Association of Taxation Technicians) qualified and building the career he always wanted.

At Wilberforce, you’ll gain confidence, real-world experience and clear routes into apprenticeships, university and future careers.

ENGLISH AND CREATIVE ARTS ALUMNI – Isobel’s Journey 📚🎨

After achieving a B in A Level English Language & Literature, B in A Level Fine Art and A in A Level Media Studies at Wilberforce, Isobel is now in their final year of Journalism Studies at the University of Sheffield, gaining hands-on experience with major media organisations including Sky News, Hits Radio, and receiving press passes for festivals and live events.

“My time at Wilberforce was an important step in shaping both my independence and my future career. I loved my time at the college as it let me gain independent skills whilst still having the structure of education. I basically lived in the old art block and loved the atmosphere of the college. It prepared me well for university and I wouldn’t be where I am now without my experiences at Wilberforce. Wilberforce is what opened my eyes to the possibility of journalism and I’ve loved every second since.”

Since leaving Wilberforce, Isobel secured their first-choice university place and was awarded a scholarship which supported their journey into higher education.

Now, they’re working towards a first-class degree and aiming to begin a career in journalism, with dreams of becoming a writer for major music publications such as Rolling Stone or NME.

Sammi Iverson

PAST BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS & GEOGRAPHY STUDENT

Sammi, formerly of Withernsea High School, has gone onto achieve great success pursuing her ambition of a career within the scientific industry. After studying Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography with Wilberforce, Sammi continued her educational journey at the University of Hull studying for a degree in Biomedical Science – much to the joy of her former Biology teacher Martin who she is still fondly remembered by! Sammi’s positive outlook and cheery demeanour as a Wilberforce student was equal to her hard work and commitment to her studies, so it is no surprise she committed herself to completing her doctorate in Medical Microbiology at Hull York Medical School. Using this impressive track record of excellence in research, she secured an R&D post at Reckitt, quickly transferring to her current role as a medical writer for Reckitt’s Global Affairs Division, seeing her travel the world using her passion for science communication and expertise to advise and educate consumers and fellow researchers in this global medical giant. Sammi has shone brightly since her days at Wilberforce and we are so proud of her achievements which we were delighted to celebrate during our recent Achievement Awards Evening.

WHY CHOOSE WILBERFORCE?

OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCES | OUTSTANDING PROGRESSION | OUTSTANDING OUTCOMES

We help students secure job offers with major employers and places at prestigious universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Hull, Leeds and York.
