BUZZING BIOLOGISTS π
Today @wilberforce_biologists were pleased to welcome back MSc research student Sophie Gibson to talk to Year 1 biologists about her previous degree, current research and the ecological importance of bees species. She also communicated her own career path in order to inspire our current students interested in pursuing their own careers in biological science.
Working with Dr James Gilbert from @universityofhull Sophie has installed a bee box on our campus and populated it with Mason bee cocoons within the nesting tubes, so that our students can monitor the resulting population that hopefully hatches. Flowering plants in the vicinity should provide a welcoming habitat for our emerging Wilberforce Bees and we can be part of this significant speciesβ conservation.

ORDER! ORDER! βοΈ
Last week some of our A Level and BTEC #Law students explored a Georgian gaol and took part in a mock murder trial when they visited the @justicemuseum in Nottingham.
Although they (hopefully) wonβt have to deal with being sent to the stocks in their futures, getting involved with the reality of a courtroom and learning about the history of the justice system is valuable experience for those that want to pursue a career in the legal sector.

CORONATION HERO: π¬π§ We are extremely proud of former Public Services student Oliver Thompson, who not only had the call up to parade in the Kings Coronation procession this bank holiday π, but who has been featured in the national press for his quick reactions to a flag bearer who collapsed and fainted during the event. Oliver said β I saw out the corner of my eye that he wasnβt right, I asked if he was ok and the next minute, I heard his bearskin hat crash to the ground, so I rushed over to help"
Oliver popped into the college today to give his gratitude to teaching staff Claire and Dave for all their help in guiding him to a career in the Navy. He said β If it wasnβt for the guidance and support of my teachers to follow my dream of a career in the Navy, I certainly wouldnβt have had the opportunity to serve my country at such a huge event, they really pushed me and gave me the focus I needed to apply for the 10 week course which I passed out in, in March of this year" Well done Oliver, we canβt wait to follow your journey in the forces.

DANCE PROUD: Last weekend students from our upskilling dance team had a fantastic opportunity to work with @yorkshiredancepictures and artists Devika & Sam from @balbirsinghdanceco. They learnt a classical Indian dance style Bharatanatyam and incorporated this with a contemporary dance piece. Teaming up with students from @hull_dance the final arrangement looked fantastic onstage. Well done to all our students who worked to a professional standard. π
